The American looked to be heading towards trouble on the 10th only for his wayward tee shot to ricochet off a tree and back onto the fairway. If that wasn’t a sign that it was going to be Thomas’ day then what followed on the same hole definitely was.

The 24-year-old’s eight-foot birdie putt stopped on the edge of the hole, defiantly staying above ground for over seven seconds, before eventually dropping to the bottom of the cup. He followed this with a chip-in birdie at 13 and a birdie at his penultimate hole – set up by a sublime 214-yard 7-iron to 15 foot – to win the US PGA by two shots.
