Hello golfers,

Competition news

August Medal

Division 1 - An excellent round of nett 67 gave recently joined Peter Carpenter 1st place with in Division 1 of this years August Medal with 2nd place going to Nigel Gumm whose gross score of 73 [nett 69] gave him 1st gross prize and another step closer to 3 handicap ! Tied in 3rd place on nett 70 were Matt Bollen, Tom McBain and in form Jim Norton.

Division 2 - Stuart Ponting took 1st place in Division 2 from Nick Hall on countback after both players returned nett scores of 69. Despite using a new Titleist driver Nick was beaten by Stuarts' superior back 9. In 3rd place, and ruing many missed chances was David Ghent on nett 70.

Division 3 - Mick Bacon saw an early return on his investment in a course of lessons as his nett 68 gave him 1st place in Division 3 along with a handicap reduction and a 2 shot winning margin over Eddie Murray in 2nd place and Gerry Westbrook in 3rd.

It is worth noting that of the 11 prize winners across the 3 divisions 7 players are currently under instruction at Kingsdown and 8 have recently purchased custom fitted equipment !!

British Seniors Amateur Championship

Most of you might ask why I mention this event. It is because one of our members - Paul Bloomfield - managed a very creditable tied 49th at Formby GC near Southport in this years tournament. This tournament is one of THE premier events in the Senior amateur calender with senior amateur players from all over the world taking part with Pauls' result being a very impressive achievement indeed. Anyone who uses the range will probably have seen Paul practicing along with taking regular tuition. Well done Paul!

Video of the week

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.

Luckiest ever hole-in-one?
