On the Course 

43 points was only good enough for a share of 3rd place in last Saturdays' Norman Smith 4 ball betterball competition with the pairings of Mike Bullock/Mike Davis, Stan Chapman/John Habgood, Paul Steer/Neil Tribbick, Spencer Clifford/Martin Hayward and Scott Brown/Steven Lowrie all returning that score. In 2nd place were Gordon Allen and John Boulton with 44 points with 1st place going to Phil Epsley and Paul Smith on 45 points. This was Pauls' second win in as many weeks thanks to his new, custom fitted Ping "G" woods and irons. If you would like to get fitted please contact me here. 

Academy News - Lessons featuring the launch monitor 

Many of you will be aware that I use the GC2 launch monitor when custom fitting. What you may not be aware of is the recently acquired H.M.T. [head movement technology] unit that works in conjunction with the launch monitor to give incredibly accurate impact information measuring not only clubhead speed but attack angle, clubhead path, face alignment [relative to path], contact point and rate of face closure. By analysing these statistics we can greatly enhance the quality of shots by making minor swing/address adjustments. 

For example, on a recent lesson Mr. "F" was complaing of lack of distance with shots being pulled straight left or curving away to the right. On closure inspection we found that his clubhead was on average travelling 3.6 degrees to the left of his desired target line with the clubface 1.1 degrees open to that clubhead path. As a result his launch ball speed was 108 mph which achieved an average carry of 154 yards with his #5 iron.

 By changing his clubhead path and the alignment of his clubface to that path using a slight address change and a different swing thought Mr. "F" achieved a ball speed of 113 mph and a carry distance of 164 yards using the same club ! Also, and very interestingly his clubhead speed remained unchanged.
